A Modern Workplace Powered by Light: Mercedes-Benz HQ, Rome
Mercedes-Benz’s Italian headquarters in Rome underwent a major transformation, combining six existing buildings into a single, flexible office complex. The goal: to create a future-proof workspace that supports employee wellbeing, enhances productivity, and reflects the premium image of the brand. With open spaces, modular layouts, and natural materials, lighting became a key design pillar in achieving a human-centric, efficient environment.
Tailored Lighting Design for Comfort, Flexibility and Control
To meet diverse lighting needs across workspaces, Thorn Lighting—together with its sister brand Zumtobel—developed a customised lighting strategy for each area of the building. On the upper floors, Thorn's Omega LED luminaires were seamlessly integrated into the ceiling grids, delivering uniform, low-glare illumination ideal for focused office work. On the ground floor, lighting was discreetly embedded into the architecture to enhance natural materials and elevate the spatial experience in reception areas, conference rooms, and the company restaurant.
Smart Lighting Solutions with Long-Term Benefits
The lighting system features advanced luminaires including Omega LED, Panos Infinity, Tecton, Supersystem II, Intro, and Craft, offering energy efficiency, visual comfort, and adaptable lighting scenes. These solutions support the daily rhythm of employees while reducing operational costs. The result is a bright, inviting workspace that promotes both wellbeing and business performance—day in, day out.
"The new lighting has transformed our headquarters into a space that is not only beautiful, but also supports how we work and feel each day."
